Software for census tables and the 2010 Census of Population and Housing

We are developing software for making mapping of census data as easy and inexpensive as possible. AFF Mapper is our most recent release and was specifically designed for creating KML based mapping files from TIGER shapes and tables available from the Census Bureau's American FactFinder web page. While it was designed for these files, it can be used to create KML files for other shapes and external files. For more details, see the User Guide, available below. Software for the 2000 Census of Population

The summary file translators, such as SF1toTable Pro, are useful for extracting specific tables for the Census 2000 raw data files. There are also lookup tables, in html format, useful for searching for variables and tables.

Software for older versions of TIGER

TGR2KML will convert TIGER polygons to KML format. The versions of TIGER supported are TIGER 94 through TIGER 2006 Second Edition. The source code for version 2 is also available. The technical whitepaper for version 2 will be available by July 1, 2008. The whitepaper describes the logic of KML polygon generation.

TGR2SHP 7. 01 converts all TIGER layers (points, lines, and polygons) to ESRI format shape files. TGR2MIF converts TIGER to MapInfo MIF/MID format files.

Other Programs

Dlg2shp can be used to extract shape files from DLG files.

KML Geocode and KML Report can be used to build a KML file from addresses in Excel or XML files. When loaded into Google Earth, these addresses will automatically be geocoded.

The files below are free to download and use.  For each program, there are links for its setup program and user manual.  For TGR2SHP, there are links for its souce code (VC++) and a technical whitepaper describing the logic of the program. These links are for version 6.321 of TGR2SHP.
